U.S. Airborne Aerial Delivery Beacon Lamp.
Designed to mark American airborne drop containers such as the A‑4 and A‑5. The lamp features a fiber insulator and pull‑cord mechanism that activated the light automatically when the container was released from the aircraft. As the parachute canopy deployed, the cord engaged the switch, illuminating the beacon.
This provided a clear visual reference during night drops, helping troops locate resupply containers on the ground. These type of lamps would have been used during D-Day and Operation Market Garden. The lamp is clearly makers marked "Standard Aircraft Products Inc Dayton Ohio. In overall nice used condition.
The ends of the beacon have faded in the course of time.
